10 DEVIANT COMICS

Creativity at its finest found in the most unexpected form, psychedelic comics!
By Mehma Anand Apr 26, 2017

Not very long ago, reading comics was not of popular culture, in fact they was only a small section of the population who took an interest in the culture of comics. Only after the conversion of certain comics into films did it become a vastly loved and appreciated art form. In recent years, an interest for trippy comic art and psychedelic Sci-Fi has increased rapidly. Comics that make no or little sense until you fully immerse yourself into it, with bizarre storylines have been created and a new obsessive trend is beginning to take over the comic and cartoon industry. Though there are endless comics that you can enjoy this summer, Delouns’ Top Ten are the following:

1. The Invisibles

A comic based on meditation, violence, time travel and psychic oppression, this comic by Morrison has complied it all in a wicked and impressive manner. The Invisibles characters consist of a counterculture assassin, a thug from Liverpool, a time traveller, a transgender healer and a cop on a mission to save the planet!

2. Preacher: Dixie Fried

Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion’s characters are still in search for Gods right hand man. Though playing the protagonist, Cassidy has a habit of creating more trouble and solving fewer problems.

3. Sin City : Hell and Back

All volumes of Frank Miller’s Sin City are a must read but the seventh edition, Hell and Back, breaks the black and white adventures of Wallace. The author adds shades of each colour to give visuals to the bad trip of Wallace due to a forced drug incident.

4. Saga of the Swamp Thing : Rite of Spring

Alan Moore is a celebrated writer who has created surreal and trippy work for a long time now. Saga of the Swamp Thing showcases and love story between a swamp and his lady, who makes love and get intimate in very unusual manners. Filled with a narrative that is unique and imagery that is unseen, the hallucinogenic comic is a go to for anyone seeking a doped out read.

5. Rogan Gosh : Karmanaut

Rogan Gosh by Peter Milligan is a little harder to keep up with then the rest. As it has several narratives and realities working parallel to one another, the comic has many dynamics to it. Out of all comics, this futuristic India comic will definitely be the trippiest of them all.

6. God The Dyslexic Dog

If the title itself has not intrigued you enough to pick up this book, I don’t know what could possibly change your mind. Actually I do, the fact that this trilogy by Brian and Phil Phillipson is based around a dyslexic boy and his dog that could potentially be God. The two are required to save the world and it all is in order to entertain us.
