1970's MOVIE BANG

The decade of freedom broke all barriers from movie titles to posters.

Gazing at your favourite movie stars on the banners is one thing we have always loved to do. As we exit the cinema hall, another film is already lined up in our list. The first glance of the poster itself creates an irresistible urge to watch it on the big screen.

We can’t forget the days when we had huge posters of shirtless heroes filled on our walls before internet took its toll on us. All the movieholics get this, don’t they? The happiness of watching those before sleeping was the secret behind all the naughty dreams that followed. The 70’s was one such time where everything broke its barriers. From movie titles, to music and fashion, all were designed with freedom. Designers had much more on their plates back then. In that phase of autonomy, the field of art empowered to quite an extent. Diminishing all the stereotypes, an edge was given to the posters. We bring you a set of funky, refreshing and whacky posters of those times giving you a trippy feel of cinema.

1. Pink Panther 1966

Our favourite panther was not what we have seen today. This French film inspired from the character has altered our image of Pink Panther altogether giving it an edgy look. A beautiful face with an animal body with floral print blocking is not what we see casually in our lives. Certainly in a weirdly beautiful way, its one of the most epic poster designs ever.

2. My Fair Lady 1967

A fresh look inspired from Marilyn Monroe has a beautiful fair lady with an evidently visible black mole. The reverse mirror effect has been creatively played with numerous elements and abstract placement to bring out the newfangled look of the lady. Breaking the connotations of perfect beauty the designer used all the elements intelligently.

3. Cindrella 1970

Our favourite Disney princess is more than just a pretty face. The graphic designers of the 70’s gave us a trippy cindrella to gaze at. The use of fluidic font and contrasting colours makes it so interesting to gaze at. Extra element of mice gives a break to the bold tints turning it into a masterpiece.

4. Hello Dolly 1970

There is no better use of abstract fluid art than this poster. The not so aesthetic face termed as dolly is not how we imagine a girl. Yet the 70’s took every sector into a different tangent by giving a vividly pleasing design to the eye.

5. Cleopatra Jones and Casino of Gold 1975

Objectifying a black woman as Cleopatra, is something only possible in that decade. An image contrasting to our dreams, the use of bright orange catches the attention. This rebellious crisp look of the black superwomen does violate all the rules of beauty.
